Traffic Problems
Commuting can drain more than your wallet
So, this article says that people get angry or stressed out from sitting in traffic and that traffic in major metro areas has worsened in the last three years. Hey, I have an idea! Let’s cut the gas tax for three months and lose billions of dollars in revenue for transportation funding. THAT would be a GREAT solution.
Oh, please! Let’s just make stuff up to be offended by!
Dunkin’ Donuts Rachael Ray ad pulled
I find it hard to believe that people with jobs have time to go out of their way to get offended by things like this. I mean, I’m sure that Dunkin’ Donuts wanted to completely alienate their American consumers by showing support to the Muslim Extremists. I bet it really helped business pick up in their Middle Eastern stores.
Who’s going to take the time to read all this?
Drug labeling aimed at pregnant women
Replace them with clearly marked sections in the drug’s label that describe what research shows about fetal risk — and whether that information comes from studies in people or only in animals — and other information, such as whether pregnant women need different doses than other patient
Not only is that a lot of info to fit on one of those tiny little labels, but who is going to take the time to read all that? Why not have both? I know that they are trying to say that Category X isn’t always Category X, but why not throw a number in there? 1X, 2B, 3B? X in the first trimester, B in the second and third. That way people can make a quick decision. Plus, what woman gets prescriptions without the input of their doctor? Shouldn’t the doctor warn you of the risks? That is what they went to med school for!
Oh Condi, you’re just so wrong
Condoleezza Rice asserts that President Bush was “clear about Iraq war.” Ummm… I don’t think so:
Kerry Challenges Bush on Iraq/9-11 Connection From 9/13/04
Bush Defends Assertions of Iraq-Al Qaeda Relationship From 6/18/04
Bush Again Links Al-Qaida in Iraq From 7/11/07
I know that these are all examples from after the war started, but I think they were also after Saddam Hussein was caught and El Presidente needed a new excuse for his fun little war.
Contact the Democratic Party!
Please, if you live in Florida or Michigan and didn’t vote in the Democratic Primary because you knew your vote didn’t matter, please contact the Party and urge them not to seat delegates at the National Convention. They shouldn’t be allowed to backtrack now, when it’s too late for our voices to be heard.
Email the Democratic National Convention
Propaganda, huh?
Former White House Press Secretary Writes Book
In this book, by former press secretary Scott McClellan, he asserts that
Bush relied on “propaganda” to sell the war.
Is this new? Did people not know this? I can remember back in March of 2002, the days when the war began. The French said we were stupid for going to war with Iraq, that Saddam Hussein didn’t have WMDs and that we should try to resolve the conflict using diplomacy, not warheads. The response from the US? Freedom Fries. We didn’t want to eat that nasty French stuff anymore. Regardless of the fact that “french” in that scenario refers not to the people or country, but the technique used to cut the potatoes.
I remember Bush, and Condi, and Cheney among others trying to tell me that Iraq was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. There was plenty of evidence to the contrary, namely that Osama Bin Laden was not a fan of Saddam Hussein because he wasn’t Muslim enough or some trivial thing like that.
I remember thinking that this war was going to be like another Vietnam. Long, drawn-out, with no way to win. I think I was right. Other people thought this, too, but we were branded un-American. This is in complete disregard to the fact that America was founded by people who dissented against their government and that one of the best things about this country was an ability to dissent without repercussion from said government. Thomas Jefferson said it best:
Dissent is the HIGHEST form of patriotism
But, here we are, six years later. We are still at war, even though I remember our fearless leader flying in a jet onto an aircraft carrier to tell our troops that we had won and that the war was over. We CAUGHT the guy, Saddam Hussein was OURS. And he’s been killed. But we’re still there. We’re still fighting. We’re still spending money we don’t have on a war we can’t win. Killing our young people for a cause I’m not sure I believe in.
I guess that’s enough of a rant for today. I just thought everyone knew about the propaganda and that this was not news.
I wish Americans would read the Constitution
So today I’m reading the news, as I do every morning, and I came across the above article. In it was the following statement:
A focus group conducted with 12 independent voters for NBC and The Wall Street Journal earlier this month in Charlottesville, Va., found that fully half said “no” when asked point-blank if they thought of Obama as an American.
I know, I know it says if they THOUGHT of Obama as American. But how can he not be an American? Do those six people think he is actually not American or that he’s unAmerican? Do they think that he doesn’t have the best interests of America at heart and therefore he’s not American? And why would they think he doesn’t love America? Because he has an odd name? Because his absentee father was African?
Well, regardless, we all know that he is INDEED an American, because our Constitution states the following:
No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States. (Reference: Constitution)
So, while The Governator will likely never be president, Barack may be, because folks, he is a natural born citizen of this great country.
Are you f*#!ng kidding me?
So I was wandering around Zappos.com and found these shoes. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Who in their right mind spends $103 on shoes for a BABY? That they will wear for like a WEEK?! I mean, I know that all the celeb parents probably put their kids in stuff like this, but do they not have anything better to do with their money?! Seriously – Tom, Katie donate to charity and go to Stride Rite like the rest of us.
Barack Obama is trying to make it up to me!
So, Barack Obama has begun to campaign in my state, Florida. I guess I’m supposed to be upset that he hasn’t visited us before. But, as the article states, he and Clinton signed pledges not to campaign in the Sunshine State until after the state’s primary was decided. This is because the Democratic party in Florida decided (for me, in spite of me, without considering me, I might add) to move its primary up to January 29 in violation of party rules. This meant that, while the state held the primary, it didn’t matter. No delegates from Florida (or Michigan, because they did the same thing) are allowed to be seated at the Democratic National Convention this summer.
So, what I’m wondering is why people are upset with Obama for not campaigning here. Shouldn’t we be more irritated with the Florida Democratic Party for deciding to make our vote worthless? If I were Obama, I wouldn’t have campaigned here either. He had more important states to deal with. Ones whose votes mattered. So get over yourself, Floridians, Obama decided not to spend his hard-earned money here because someone ELSE decided we don’t matter. Let’s be angry with them!!
And while we are on the subject, Clinton didn’t win Florida (or Michigan — especially not Michigan). Why? Because I didn’t vote. Because my vote didn’t matter. And a lot of people felt that way. So this crap about her winning the popular vote, and using the voters in Florida and Michigan to back it up, is ridiculous. The outcome might have been a lot different if we voters thought our votes mattered and actually showed up to the polls.
What’s your reason for picking for whom to vote?
Geraldine Ferraro says that she may not vote for Obama should he win the Democratic Nomination. The article goes on to say:
The comments appear to underscore the potential difficulty Obama may have courting some women voters in the fall — many of whom have said they feel a solidarity with the New York senator over the barriers Clinton faces in her bid to become the first female president.
What I want to know is do women feel this solidarity with Clinton because Clinton is a woman? Should she be elected president because she’s a woman, so she’s “like me?” Heck no, is what I say. Why do people vote like this? Shouldn’t we rely on her policies, her vote-record, her beliefs, and her actions to determine if she is WORTHY to lead us? The fact that she is a woman, or that Obama is an African-American, or that McCain is a veteran shouldn’t even enter our consciousness. The only question we should have is “will this person be a good leader do what is in my best interests and the best interests of this country?” not “Is it a woman, is it a man, is it an African-American, or is he/she white?”
Come on, people, let’s start choosing who to vote for because they are the best person for the job, not because they are in physical way like us.
