Oh, how I wish someone would!

Seriously, if that is the gun that this dude is toting around, someone needs to take it. Hunting rifles, I get; shotguns, I get; handguns I can almost forgive. But whatever the hell that is on that flag? Um, dude, unless you’re in a war zone, you don’t need that.
This picture goes along with this article: What’s Next for Gun Control?
ruling for the first time that the Constitution confers an individual right to gun ownership beyond providing for “a well regulated Militia,” as the amendment states
Finally, someone read the whole thing!
Ha
The incredible edible front lawn
I totally just said this in my other post. HA!
I wish I lived up north where this kind of “farming” is more possible. Sandy soil + drought followed by intense rains = not so tasty vegetation.
Wow
North Korea destroys nuclear reactor
Wow. When I read the articles yesterday about N. Korea stopping its nuclear program and/or declaring its nuclear sites to the UN, I really thought they were being deceitful. Maybe one good thing has come out of the Bush II presidency. Hopefully N. Korea will keep up the disarmament, because that Kim Jong Il really creeps me out.
The 2nd Amendment and recent Supreme Court Rulings
Not that I disagree with the Supreme Court on this one, in fact, I think it’s probably an ok ruling. But:
“By banning handguns, Defendants currently maintain and actively enforce a set of laws, customs, practices, and policies under color of state law which deprives individuals … of their right to keep and bear arms,”
WHY WHY WHY do people not read the rest that Amendment?!
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. (Source LII: Constitution)
Where is the organized militia here? Would that be the gangs of Chicago or DC? And if so, how are those gangs securing our free state?!
Another article on the subject: What’s Next for Gun Control?
At issue in the present case, District of Columbia v. Heller, was the city’s ban prohibiting ownership of handguns that were unregistered as of 1976 — a statute that, by effectively nullifying possession, ranks among the nation’s stiffest
I’m confused. How does prohibiting ownership of unregistered guns effectively nullify possession? Isn’t it illegal to own an unregistered gun, PERIOD?! I see that the guy who filed the suit was denied a registration, but isn’t that the prerogative of the state? Are we going to now allow ANYONE to purchase a gun, so long as they register it? Isn’t that in effect what this says?
Biofuels and Aviation
Biofuels become aviations big focus
This article talks about how aviation is such a “big” producer of carbon dioxide emissions and leaves a huge carbon footprint and something needs to be done. It goes on to point out that the aviation industry produces a scant one-ninth the CO2 emissions of automobiles. Then if talks about how the high price of fuel is helping push the aviation industry into being more “green”. Apparently by using biofuels.
I don’t think anyone’s really thought this biofuel thing out. I mean, here we are in the midst of a world FOOD crisis and we decide to use our corn for fuel instead of food?! Then we have the U.S. government paying farmers NOT to grow corn. A greater number of American cars and trucks are being produced to run on ethanol and more and more gas stations are allowing up to 10% ethanol in their fuel. Does no one except me see this leading to a further disaster? Or are we all going to start growing corn instead of grass?
Wake up people!! Biofuel is NOT the answer. At least not in its use of an edible product. Hey, scientists, come up with something that uses our landfill waste for fuel instead of our food!! That’s a good start to solving the fuel problem! Of course, it would be good if you could also make it a green fuel.
I wanna go private
This is why I want my daughter to go to private school. Even though we will probably live in a place that has A-rated schools and doesn’t feel all of the budget pinch, I just want to feel good about paying for her supplies. I wish there were a fair answer for this. I, personally, don’t have a problem purchasing some of C’s school materials while other, less fortunate families, don’t have to. I know, though, that some parents would be upset. And where do you draw the line? Who makes enough money to buy all the supplies, computers, text books and who makes enough to buy 50%? I wonder if we could start a fund to donate to the public school system. Would people donate to the schools if they didn’t think their child’s school would benefit? I think I would. Would you?
Outsourcing personal errands
Who are these people dealing with where it takes 4-5 calls or emails to make an appointment? Usually I can either do it online in seconds or make a 5 minute phone call. Unless they can actually GO to the appointment for me, it’s not saving me time.
And I like to check my email. Makes me feel loved. And I think it’s rude to pay someone to purchase a gift. All the things that I would want someone to do for me would require someone to act in person — things like waiting in line at the DMV or the post office. Doing my grocery shopping. Washing my car (or getting it washed).
Child Rapists
Child rapists can’t be executed
…the justice wrote, forbid capital punishment for any crime other than those that take a life.
Honestly, I think that raping a child is worse than murder. That little girl already has to live with having been raped by a man she trusted for the rest of her life. Now she has to wonder if the man that did it to her will ever get out of prison, which is likely. Not that I believe, necessarily, in the death penalty, but if I did.
Obama ‘distorting’ the Bible?
Dobson accuses Obama of `distorting’ Bible
So Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family is accusing Obama of distorting the Bible and equating the Old Testament to the New Testament. This is because in a recent speech, Obama said this:
Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools? Would we go with James Dobson’s or Al Sharpton’s?
I guess he went on in the speech with the following, which is not a quote from Obama, but the article paraphrasing Obama:
Dobson took aim at examples Obama cited in asking which Biblical passages should guide public policy — chapters like Leviticus, which Obama said suggests slavery is OK and eating shellfish is an abomination, or Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, “a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application.”
Having read and taken incredible offense at a large portion of the book of Leviticus, I have often wondered what to take of that book. I don’t remember the specifics of the Sermon on the Mount, so I can’t speak to that, but Dobson then said:
Dobson and Minnery accused Obama of wrongly equating Old Testament texts and dietary codes that no longer apply to Jesus’ teachings in the New Testament.
I understand that there is a difference between the Old Testament codes that no longer apply and Jesus’s teachings in the New Testament. I understand that his coming and his sacrifice is supposed to negate all that stuff. What I don’t think Dobson is seeing is that OBAMA is not the one who is equating these two things. I think that a large number of American Christians do not see the difference. They are not taught that there IS a difference. I think that Obama was calling attention to THOSE Christians, not saying that he believes there is no difference.
What do you think?
Dobson then goes on to say that Obama has a “fruitcake interpretation” of the Constitution and governs with the lowest set of morals because he supports abortion rights.
As I have gotten older my stance on abortion has become more conservative, as I’m sure most people’s does. However, I still believe that abortion is a woman’s choice. I think that there are a million things that can be done to avoid having to make that choice, but I think there would be a lot more stories about horrific child abuse if abortion were illegal. Please reference the previous post about the women who abused a 5-year old boy so harshly that authorities were surprised he was still alive. Note the story of that little girl found in the cooler off the coast of Texas a year or so ago. Note the story of the family in Texas forcing its children (the youngest being 5-years-old) to dance erotically for paying customers while drugged up on Vicodin.
And let’s talk about the women that make the choice. I agree that having it so accessible removes a lot of stigma from abortion, and that’s shameful and wrong. But with it being legal, women generally aren’t dying from the procedure. If it were illegal, women would still pursue it, but it wouldn’t be regulated and the chances of infection and death would skyrocket.
I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do. I think it’s absolutely the WRONG thing to do, especially with all the birth control options and adoption being available. Which brings me to another point about Dr. Dobson: I know the man is obviously against pre-marital sex, but listen up, buddy — it’s going to happen and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. So how do you advocate not teaching sex-ed in schools? Shouldn’t we at least educate our children to the options out there to prevent the need for an abortion (all while stressing abstinence) rather than just assume that they won’t have sex? There have been multiple studies showing that comprehensive sex-ed increases how long teens wait to have sex and reduces how many teens have sex. So how can you even argue that sex-ed would tell children that it’s OK to have sex?
Dobson said. “What he’s trying to say here is unless everybody agrees, we have no right to fight for what we believe.”
I have to wonder if Dr. Dobson is a supporter of George W. Bush? Because I remember back in 2003 when we began a war in Iraq, when ‘ole GWB had an 80% approval rating. I remember the Dixie Chicks experiencing a reduction in album sales because they were “ashamed” that Bush was from their home state. I remember “freedom fries”, because France was against our invasion of Iraq. I remember reading articles that told me I was unAmerican because I didn’t agree with the invasion. Just pointing out that we are always going to disagree with some part of those who will lead us, and since the year 2000 or so, the Democratic party has been the one dissenting, so really, I think Dr. Dobson’s got this one backwards.
I know the media is trying to help, but…
Housing rebound to be prolonged
So, the media keeps reporting all this information on the housing market crash and all that. Record foreclosures in May, thousands of unsold homes on the market, all that. You’ve read the stories, you know what I’m talking about. But, I think the media is causing the problem. If you keep reporting that you shouldn’t buy a house because prices are dropping, then people will not buy houses and prices will keep dropping. So, please media, report some GOOD news for a change. Lay off all this doomsday stuff.
